A Word About My Art
With a childlike essence, whimsical, big, and bold are a few words that best describe my work, all while Staying true to my “go big or go home” approach to my style of cooking and life. I have never been able to “stay inside the lines” as a kid nor as an adult! As Picasso once said, “it took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”
Much of my inspiration comes from finding the symbolic meaning in things juxtaposed with what I am feeling at the time… the good, the bad, and the ugly! The wins, the failures, the sadness, and the joy.
My love of butterflies, for example - are beautiful, of course, but what really resonates with me is the painful, scary metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly, symbolizing transformation and new beginnings. I parallel this to what I have experienced throughout my life.
I use color, gestural marks and a variety of tools and mediums to express these things mostly in an abstract way. It’s not about perfection but about real and raw freedom of expression. I prefer to paint quickly and spontaneously translating feelings to the canvas, eliminating any opportunities for second thoughts or regrets.
